Thanks to this index, Portugal was ranked as the best country for remote work, some of the reasons that explain this are that there is a digital nomad visa in Portugal, many inhabitants have a quite high level of English which makes it better for expats, there is high political stability and low violence rate, low pollution and of course amazing sunny weather.

Lisbon is not far behind, it is also considered one of the best places in the world for remote workers and it has become very popular among digital nomads.

Some of the reasons for Lisbon to be so good for either a workation or remote work for a longer period is that it is considered one of the sunniest, friendliest and happiest capitals of Europe. For sure the nice weather, the city’s vibrant vibe, the welcoming locals, low cost of living compared to other capitals, easy access to many beaches, and its beautiful and picturesque buildings, squares, and parks play a big role.

These characteristics could be appealing to anyone, but Lisbon has way more to offer, especially to people that work remotely. The city is host to diverse well-known international appeal events like Web Summit which attracts thousand of tech attendees each year. Also, Portugal itself is very attractive for immigrant people to become tax residents through the “golden visa” that you get due to investment or a startup visa that considerably reduces your taxes. Additionally, the overall environment in Lisbon is innovative and exciting. There are many cafés and brunch places that offer good WiFi and are laptop-friendly, and also a large number of co-work spaces all over the city that would help you be very productive.
