A taberna da Rua das Flores (€): this small tavern is located in Chiado, in Rua das Flores 103. It has a vibe of the old Portuguese restaurants and even though they change the menu daily, they always use old recipes from the typical local cuisine for a quite affordable price. They don’t accept reservations and it has become a popular restaurant so it might be that you’ll have to wait a little bit for a table.
Bonjardim (€€): this well-known restaurant is located near Avenida da Liberdade, in Travessa de Santo Antão 11. They are famous for their peri peri chicken with fries, with a good price and a fast service, this is why it is usually a bit crowded. However, they have other dishes too.
Ze da Mouraria (€€): the traditional, popular but very familiar restaurant is located in Rua João do Outeiro 24, in the tourist neighborhood of Alfama. There you can find petiscos, which are small dishes to share and also typical Portuguese dishes. A lot of people go to this restaurant, from local families to tourists, that’s why you better get there early.
Casa do Alentejo (€€): this old Moorish-style palace building built in the 1600s is located in Rua Portas de Santo Antão 58, near Avenida da Liberdade. As the name of the place says, the specialties are from the Alentejo region, well known for its wine but also its delicious food.
Canto da Atalaia (€€): this very intimate fado restaurant is located in Rua da Atalaia 13, in Bairro Alto. This is the place to go if you’re looking for good Portuguese dishes or also Petiscos, quite affordable prices, and a very authentic fado experience.
Cervejaria Trindade (€€): this old beer factory restaurant with a lot of history is located in Chiado, in Rua Nova da Trindade 20C. Its azulejos from the 19th century and traditional Portuguese food have made it very popular among tourists but also locals.
Tomá Lá Dá Cá (€): this very simple but good restaurant is located in Travessa do Sequeiro 38 in Santa Catarina. Serves generous rations of typical Portuguese dishes at a very reasonable price near the city center. However, it doesn’t accept reservations so you’ll have to have a little bit of patience to get a table.
Grelha do Carmo (€): this small but cozy restaurant is located near Rossio station, in Rua da Condessa 3A. It is well known for its Portuguese dishes mainly focused on seafood preparations but especially for its Polvo a Lagareiro or grilled octopus, all this at very good prices.
