1. Fast internet: if you want to work remotely with no issues, you have to make sure you get the fastest internet connection available in the country you’re going to. Considering this, everything from 100 MBit/s is okay, but ideally 500 Mbit/s or faster would be better.
2. Desk: it is a fact that you will need a spacious and comfortable working space and with that comes a solid desk, ideally height-adjustable to avoid posture problems in the future.
3. Proper office chair: you’re probably going to be sitting a big part of your day, so it is indispensable for you to have a comfortable and positionable chair, best case ergonomic one where you could feel very comfortable but also in a proper position to work for hours.
4. Work equipment: there are many things that would be very useful for you to equip your office space. The basic ones could be a mouse, keybord, monitor and a laptop stand, but also we’re pretty sure that a power trip would be very important, so don’t forget about it!
5. Adequate lighting: this is really a must, for sure there’s nothing better than natural light and its benefits like increase in energy and productivity levels, especially if you’re going to be spending a few hours in front of a screen. Also, a good window and a nice view could provide you a little bit of disconnection from work.
6. Central location: it depends on what you want and what’s your definition of a central location, but isn’t it good to have a nice coffee shop around the corner when you need to wake up for your morning call? Or a well rated restaurant nearby to go with your friends for dinner after work? You’ll get that and more in a central location, like a good connection by public transport or at least having the possibility to be able to reach other places in a fast way by uber or walking is always a good thing to consider, you don’t want to be working in a remote place that leaves you completely disconnected from the world, do you?
7. Scout the area for amenities: considering the previous point, being able to find all the important amenities like supermarkets, pharmacies, hospitals and shops nearby in the area you will be living would make things way easier and would also make you save a lot of time.
8. Fully equipped kitchen: we’re sure you don’t plan to be buying different kitchen equipment to leave in the apartment or changing the idea of what you want every time you want to have a meal in between your work breaks, so for sure it is a game changer to have a well equipped kitchen. Also, a dishwasher would definitely make your life a bit easier.
9. Noise level: a loud and noisy environment could be very distracting and counterproductive during work and this could be more of a problem if you are in video meetings or calls. In busy places, like Lisbon, double glass windows would be the ideal to avoid noise contamination from the streets.
10. A good bed: to get a good dose of sleep to be fit and full of energy to work or all the adventures waiting for you out there is for sure an essential.
